Known and renowned throughout the world as a synonym for elegant and refined villas – designed by the architect Andrea Palladio, Vicenza offers several attractions that will leave you speechless.
The city center is constituted by Piazza dei Signori – a very typical name for the squares of the region – seat of the municipality. On the same square there is also another civil building that can deceive the visitor with his name: it is the Palladian Basilica, designed again by Palladio.
As evidence of the medieval past, the city still preserves the ancient walls, built by the Della Scala family. The true symbol of the Vicenza pride stands in Piazza dei Signori: it is the Rua – or Wheel – the carousel that for six centuries, from 1444, symbolized the city of Vicenza on the occasion of the feast of Corpus Domini.
The historic center of Vicenza is forbidden to tourist buses that will find, instead, areas equipped for parking outside the historic center.
